KRG Human Rights Organization worries on situation in Syria’s Afrin

DUHOK, Iraq (North Press) – On Wednesday, Hamdi Berwari, the official of the Human Rights Organization in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG), expressed his grave concern about the situation in Afrin, northwest Syria, due to “the violations committed by the military groups there.”

“There are a lot of violations of all international and Syrian laws in Afrin region by the security forces,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with North Press, Berwari stated that even the olive trees have been subjected to violations of the armed groups.

“They transferred olive trees from Afrin to other areas, and this economically affected the people of Afrin,” he added.

The human rights official called on the international organizations, especially the UN to intervene “to closely watch the events taking place in Afrin and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

He criticized the approach of the international human rights organizations to the Afrin issue saying that it has not reached the desired level.

Berwari revealed that their organization is coordinating with local organizations in Syria to document the violations to present them to the relevant international bodies.
