Russian Military Police returns to its bases in Syria’s Aleppo countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – After its withdrawal on Tuesday morning, the Russian Military Police has returned to its bases in the northern countryside of Aleppo, northwest Syria, a local military source told North Press on Wednesday.

“The Russian forces have stationed in their bases in the town of Tel Rifa’at and the village of Tel Ajar in the northern countryside of Aleppo,” the source added.

On Tuesday, several media sites circulated news of the withdrawal of the Russian forces from their bases in the region known as Shahba in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where Afrin IDPs are residing in after the displaced from their homes following the Turkish invasion and occupation in March 2018. 

The source indicated that the Russian withdrawal was not accompanied by any withdrawal of the Syrian government forces stationed in the same region.

 The source did not provide any details regarding the reason of the Russian Military Police’s withdrawal.

This morning, the Turkish forces bombed the outskirts of the town of Tel Rifa’at and Mennegh military airport in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Tel Rifa’at, the surrounding towns and camps of Afrin IDPs in the northern countryside of Aleppo have been witnessing frequent shelling by the Turkish forces and pro-Turkish armed groups.
