Coronavirus outbreak in Syria’s northeast cancels celebrations on Yezidi new year day

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Mahmud Resho, member in the Yezidi House in northeast Syria said that the Yezidi House canceled all celebrations on the Yezidi new year day as a result of the coronavirus outbreak in the area.

April 14 will mark the Yezidi New Year known as Charshamba Sor (Red Wednesday), which is on the first Wednesday of April of each year according to the eastern calendar.

Resho added, “The area is witnessing the implementation of a complete lockdown and we adhere to the decisions of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).”

AANES decided to expand the complete lockdown in all its areas from Tuesday April 13 to April 22.

On Tuesday morning, AANES’ Executive Council co-chair congratulated and issued a decision to suspend work in its institutions on Tuesday on the occasion of the Yezidi new year.
