Fire broke out in power plant in Syria’s Qamishli countryside

DERBASIYA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a source from the power plant in Derbasiya town, northeastern Syria, said that fire broke out at the plant due to the explosion of the main circuit in the transformer.

The fire cut off the power supply to the countryside, and caused Alouk water station to be temporarily out of service, according to the source.

The sources added that two feeding cells that reached 20 kilovolts, were burned due to the increased loads, which led three feeder lines in the city and four in the countryside to be out of service.

The source indicated that the power transmission and distribution workshops in Hasakah have begun to assess the faults, and are still following up the results of the damage to the station.

The source did not specify the period for which maintenance work will be completed, linking that to the result of assessing faults and spare parts available at the station.

The Alouk water station is fed from the power plant in Derbasiya after the Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) station was out of service following the Turkish invasion in October 2019.
