Iranian-backed groups to comb Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Liwa Fatemiyoun (Afghan Shia militia formed in 2014 to fight in Syria on the side of the Syrian government), with support and supervision of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), started preparing to launch a combing operation in the vicinity of its headquarters and military points in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of the Syrian government forces.

“The campaign will be launched from the desert of al-Tebni, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, as it largely contains the headquarters and points of Liwa Fatemiyoun and the Iraqi Hezbollah,”Karrar al-Hassan, a pseudonym for Liwa Fatemiyoun member, said.

“Abu Kamal desert and al-Mayadin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, will also be combed during the campaign, under the supervision and direction of the IRGC leaders in Deir ez-Zor,” al-Hassan added.

Recently, the process of targeting members and patrols of the government forces in general, and the Iranian-backed groups in particular, in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, has been active by unidentified individuals, believed to be ISIS sleeper cells.
