Government forces threaten of military escalation in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Russian Military Police met with the members of the negotiating committees in al-Jaidour area in the countryside of Daraa, south Syria, and informed them about the existence of ISIS sleeper cells, referring to a military campaign, local sources told North Press on Monday.

“The Russian side reported messages from government officers that there are ISIS sleeper cells in al-Jaidour area in the city of Jasem, who target their members and figures,” the sources added.

While during the meeting with the Russian side, former leaders of the opposition groups denied the presence of ISIS sleeper cells in the city of Jasem.

They confirmed to the Russian delegation that the people of the region were those who fought ISIS while it was in the Yarmouk Basin area in Daraa, before 2018, and before the Syrian government took control of the area.

A member of the negotiating committees told North Press that this allegation shows the deliberate intention of the government forces “either to tighten the security grip on al-Jaidour or to raid it under the pretext of the presence of ISIS members.”

Al-Jaidur area, specifically the city of Jasem, is witnessing a state of tension and anxiety, due to the deterioration of the security situation there, especially after frequent attacks by unidentified individuals against military and security points.
