Syria’s Damascus markets lack preventative measures against coronavirus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Days before Ramadan (the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which is observed by a month of fasting), markets in the Syrian capital Damascus are witnessing overcrowding amid the absence of preventative measures against coronavirus despite the increasing numbers of infections in the city.

This comes in midst of several crises that squeeze the Syrian government-held areas, including the fuel crisis that has paralyzed the movement throughout the capital recently.

The market of al-Thawrah bridge in central Damascus witnessed overcrowding by people rushing to buy their needs before Ramadan in light of the increasing prices and crisis that the city is witnessing, like other Syrian cities.

The total toll of coronavirus infections in Syria has come up to 20,226, including 14,012 recoveries and 1,378 deaths, according to the Health Ministry in the Syrian government.
