Three people drowned in Euphrates River in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, three people drowned after their car fell into the Euphrates River, south of the city of Raqqa, north Syria.

Residents of al-Meshlab neighborhood in Raqqa reported that a car fell into the Euphrates River while going along the river south of the city.

The Initial Response Team of Raqqa Civil Council went after the residents’ report, and exhumed the bodies of three people, two young men and a girl.

Yasser al-Khamis, head of the Initial Response Team in Raqqa, told North Press that the missing persons have not yet been identified.

Drowning in the Euphrates River, often children or young people, is frequent, and it increases in the summer as the people go swimming in the river.

Last year, the Initial Response Team established emergency detachments on the banks of the Euphrates River to save possible drownings in the river.
