Syrian government prevents residents to enter Autonomous Administration areas

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Syrian government forces and the affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF) prevented a number of residents on the banks of the Euphrates River near the town of al-Tebni, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, from entering the Autonomous Administration-held areas.

Every day, people go to the Autonomous Administration areas, on the other bank of the Euphrates, to buy their needs of fuel, gas and food at low prices.

“Today, the government forces prevented 20 young men from going to the Autonomous administration areas, near the town of al-Tebni, to get their daily needs,”  Uday al-Qasem, resident of al-Tebni, said.

“Mobile checkpoints and patrols were set up to prevent residents from returning to the banks of the river near al-Tebni or going to the Autonomous Administration areas,” he added.

The process of preventing residents from going from the government-held areas to the Autonomous Administration areas comes under the accusation of “damaging the economy and engaging in smuggling,” according to the town’s residents.
