Lockdown lonely measure to decrease coronavirus: Raqqa health committee
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Implementing complete lockdown and physical distancing are the lonely measures that may contribute in decreasing the number of coronavirus infections, said Kassar al-Ali, co-chair of Health Committee of Raqqa Civil Council, said on Saturday.
“The complete lockdown has been practically come to effect for three days after lack of commitment by the residents in the first days,” he added.
Al-Ali suggested to extend the lockdown for another week “to complete the necessary period medically required” in order to prevent the transmission of the virus.
On April 6, North Press published scenes from the city of Raqqa in the first day of the lockdown, showing lack of commitment by the residents.
Al-Ali pointed out that the third wave of coronavirus included neighboring areas, and not only northeast Syria.
On April 6, the AANES imposed complete lockdown on the cities of Qamishli, Hasakah and Raqqa to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus after a remarkable increased in the infections.
The officer department in the People’s Municipality, with the participation of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, resorted to alerting residents via loudspeakers to comply with the complete lockdown decision.
On April 9, the AANES Health Board announced the recording of five deaths and 236 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of the infections to 11,769 confirmed cases, including 415 deaths and 1,354 cases of recovery.
