DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A source in the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce revealed on Friday that Syria has demanded an Iraqi trade delegation open a transit line for goods through Iraqi territory.
An Iraqi trade delegation, headed by the head of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce is visiting the Syrian capital Damascus to develop economic cooperation between the two countries.
The source explained to North Press that a transit line with Iraq would allow Syrian trucks loaded with goods to pass towards the Gulf.
“This gives us two lines for export from Jordan and Iraq. The Iraq line also relieves exporters somewhat of the moodiness of dealing via Jordan,” the source added.
The source indicated that Syria demanded that Iraq exempt Syrian goods from Iraqi customs, while Syria was ready to reciprocate.
