Government security forces deploy amid calls for protest in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Syrian government security forces intensively deployed in al-Sayer Square in the city of Suwayda following calls by university students on social media sites to organize demonstrations.
Suwayda is witnessing a state of public resentment due to the deteriorating living conditions, while residents accused the government of not finding any solutions for them.
23-year-old Samer Ra’ouf (a pseudonym), ua niversity student in Suwayda who called for demonstrations, said that the intensive deployment of the government security force today occurred in anticipation of any protests against the Syrian government.
“The difficult living and economic conditions that students are experiencing in Suwayda urged us to release these calls on social media,” he told North Press.
A large number of security members and pro-government individuals gathered today in al-Sayer Square with holsters and batons, according to him.
Additionally, a car carrying a DShK was mainly responsible for having curbed any protest, according to Ra’ouf.
