Syria’s AANES sterilizes Qamishli to limit coronavirus spreading
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a municipality in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, started a cleaning and sterilization campaign of key places in the city as part of preventative measures to limit the spread of coronavirus in the city.
On Tuesday, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES) has reached 11,092 confirmed cases, including 400 deaths and 1,340 recoveries.
The campaign will include cleaning and sterilization of markets, main streets and public squares within the first week of the total lockdown that AANES has imposed after the increase of infections.
“Today, we started cleaning the streets in preparation for sterilizing them later, because sterile medications will not be of use unless the streets are clean,” the co-chair of the municipality of Qamishli, Dilan Hissi told North Press.
“The lockdown affects the work of municipalities to a large extent, as we are forced to suspend some service projects,” she added.
She referred that during the lockdown, the municipalities of Qamishli will focus on the issues of cleaning and sterilization to contribute in facing the pandemic.
On Tuesday, the complete lockdown came into effect in the cities of Qamishli, Hasakah, and Raqqa, and will continue for a week coinciding with a partial one in the rest of the areas in northeast Syria.
