Turkish-backed group imposes royalties on cars in Afrin countryside
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, members of the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups imposed royalties on cars entering Rajo district in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
A private source told North Press that members of a military police checkpoint at the entrance to Rajo are parking cars and imposing an amount of 20 Turkish lira (equivalent to about 9,000 Syrian pounds) to allow them to enter.
He added that the officers looted goods the car carried or what was available in it in the event that there was no money with the driver.
The city of Afrin and its environs north of Aleppo have been occupied by Turkey and its affiliated armed opposition groups since March 2018.
