Syria’s Autonomous Administration imposes total lockdown on Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Crisis Management Cell in the Euphrates region announced the imposition of a complete lockdown on the region for 10 days, in order to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The Euphrates region is a geographical division used by the Autonomous Administration, and it refers to the areas of Raqqa, Kobani, Tabqa, and Tel Abyad, north Syria.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has formed the Crisis Management Cell since the start of the spread of coronavirus in the area earlier in 2020.

The lockdown decision will take effect on April 9, according to the circular issued by the Cell and seen by North Press.

Move and public facilities such as wedding halls, places of worship, parks, restaurants and cafeterias, sports clubs, and commercial and industrial shops and clothing stores are closed during the lockdown period.

During the past three days, the city of Kobani recorded 20 coronavirus infections, according to Health Board statistics.

The partial curfew issued by the AANES will be implemented in the region after the total lockdown takes effect.

The circular stated that work in the AANES institutions will be limited to “staff working in the necessary offices.”

The circular excluded “institutions whose nature of work requires continuity” from the lockdown, such as Health Board, cleaners, water emergencies and emergency work in the local administration and the environment, mills, bakeries, bread sales agents, electricity emergencies, humanitarian and relief organizations, and fuel directorate.

Farmers, dairy farms’ owners, dairy and cheese shops, and vegetables and fruits sellers are allowed to move to and from the city between 6 and 8 in the morning and from 5 to 7 in the evening.

The circular called on residents to follow personal safety measures and ways to prevent the virus by wearing face masks, sterilizing hands, and maintaining a safety distance.
