SDF arrests ISIS leaders in Syria’s east Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested leaders of the Islamic State (ISIS) east Deir ez-Zor.

“The SDF arrested three ISIS leaders, two of which are Iraqis, while the third is from al-Shuhail town,” a military source told North Press.

The source pointed out that an ISIS leader was arrested in a tunnel in al-Shabakah neighborhood within the agriculture lands in al-Shuhail.

Light and medium weapons were found, in addition to explosive belts and wirelesses, which were in the possession of the detainees.

On April 2, the SDF conducted a security campaign against ISIS sleeper cells in al-Shuhail town, east Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF conducts large-scale security campaign every now and then to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in countryside of Deir ez-Zor.  

On March 29, the SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition arrested four ISIS militants including a leader in al-Shuhail town.
