Seminar on Constitutional Committee held in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Ezdina Foundation (a non-governmental media and human rights organization active in northeast Syria) held a seminar in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria, carried several recommendations to the Constitutional Committee in Geneva to prepare a constitution that guarantees the rights of all Syrian communities.
The session, entitled “A Constitution That Protects Us,” which was held in cooperation with the US State Department, aims to inform local communities about what is going on within the United Nations institutions regarding negotiations for Syria.
A number of activists in civil society organizations in Hasakah participated the seminar, in addition to a number of human rights figures and activists from outside Syria through Zoom service.
The Constitutional Committee is a founding assembly licensed by the United Nations, where it seeks to reconcile the government and the opposition by amending the current constitution or adopting a new one for Syria.
“The activities that the Foundation holds deal with the constitution and the political process that was held in Geneva with its nine conferences,” Abeer Hassaf, manager of the seminar held by the Ezdina Foundation, told North Press.
She noted to the absence of a large part of the Syrian communities through the absence of a real representation of the communities of the regions of northeastern Syria.
“Today we discussed the issue of youth and the extent of neglecting this important segment of society, which are the real active force in the issue of development, building the future and the nation,” she added.
“We are about to activate the role of the neglected segments of society, hearing young people, what their opinions and proposals to convey them to decision-making centers,” Hassaf stated.
