Child Protection Office hands over minors to their parents in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Child Protection Office in the armed conflicts in Hasakah, northeast Syria, handed over 4 children, who had joined to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to their parents, on March 27.

The Child protection offices in armed conflicts have been established in all cities of northeast Syria, after an agreement signed by the SDF Commander-in-Chief, General Mazloum Abdi, and the United Nations, to prevent the recruitment of children and their use as combatants in armed conflicts.

Khaled Jabr, co-head of the Child Protection Office in in Hasakah, told North Press that they had received four minors from the SDf to hand them over to their parents.

“We are working in accordance with the international laws signed between the Autonomous Administration and the United Nations, which do not allow the recruitment of minors,” Jabr added.

The ages of the children who were handed over to their parents are 16 years old, and they are from different cities in northeast Syria.

The number of children handed over to their parents has reached 49 since the establishment of the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflict in Hasakah in October of 2020.
