US and Germany pledge to provide humanitarian aid to Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the United States of America and Germany said that they would provide humanitarian aid to Syria, while the United Nations plans to raise $10 billion for the Syrians.

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said that his country would provide humanitarian aid of more than $596 million “to confront the Syrian crisis.”

“The aid aims to provide help to many Syrians at home, who are estimated at 13.4 million people, as well as to help 5.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt,” he added.

While the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas, said that his country would provide 1,738 billion euros (two billion dollars), which is the country’s “largest contribution” in the last four years.

This came during the fifth edition of the “Brussels Conference for Syria”, which aims to help neighboring countries that have received millions of Syrian refugees.

The United Nations called for donations of at least 10 billion dollars for this purpose.
