Security campaign aims to restore stability in Syria’s Hawl: SDF spokesman

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The security campaign in Hawl Camp, northeast Syria, is continuing, aiming at “restoring stability to the camp,” said Kino Gabriel, spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), on Tuesday.

“We do not set any specific timetable. It remains related to the changes that may take place,” Gabriel told North Press.

He pointed out that the US-led Global Coalition has not participated in the operation on the ground, but its role lies in “logistical and intelligence support.”

Gabriel’s speech came during a press conference held in the headquarters of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) on Tuesday, in the third day of the security campaign.

The statement was read by Ali al-Hassan, the Asayish spokesman, in the presence of Kino Gabriel, Avinar Derik, commander of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), and Nuri Mahmoud, spokesman for the People’s Protection Units (YPG).

“There are 5 leaders who are responsible for sleeper cells which were launching terrorist operations within the camp,” al-Hassan said in the statement.

On March 28, the Asayish along with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by Counter-terrorism Forces and rapid Deployment Forces launched a security campaign inside the camp.

The security operation was entitled the “Humanity and Security Campaign,” with the aim of reducing the danger of ISIS sleeper cells, which have killed 47 people since the beginning of this year.
