Clashes between SDF and unidentified gunmen in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, clashes erupted between a patrol of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces and a group of armed men, likely to be affiliated with ISIS, in the town of al-Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
“A night patrol of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces in the town of al-Shuhail clashed with four gunmen who were planting explosive devices near one of the military locations in the town,” a military source told North Press.
“The gunmen fled, and then the military engineering teams started dismantling the explosive charges and moving them to the place designated for destruction,” the source added.
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed assassinations and widespread and intense bombings in recent times, targeting members, vehicles and military points of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
On March 25, ISIS claimed responsibility for targeting a military vehicle of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) with an explosive device in the town of al-Sowar, north of Deir ez-Zor, which led to the death of two and wounding four.
