Two opposition members killed in northwest Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – On Friday morning, unidentified persons targeted a vehicle of the Turkish-backed Suqour al-Shamal armed group in Bulbul district, north of Afrin, killing two members.
“The vehicle was targeted when it was leaving the district, where the attackers targeted it with light weapons and killed two members,” a local source told North Press.
“Following the targeting, the area witnessed a military alert, as all entrances to the district were closed and the houses near the attack position were inspected,” the source added.
Bulbul district is controlled by several groups, the most known of which are Suqour al-Shamal and Sultan Murad.
Afrin region, north of Aleppo, has been under the control of the Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed armed groups since March 2018 after a military operation launched on January 20 of the same year.
The Turkish operation displaced more than 300,000 of the indigenous residents of Afrin, 100,000 of them are residing in 5 camps and destroyed villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
Areas held by Turkish-backed groups have been witnessing security chaos, accompanied by successive explosions and kidnappings.
