Human rights committee reveals violations of Syrian workers in KRG

ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, Mahmoud Ayoub, official of foreign relations at Human Rights Committee (MAF), revealed several cases of violations of the rights of Syrian workers in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, Ayoub said, there are many cases of violations in the private sector, especially in the field of construction and electricity. 

Ayoub stressed the need for a legal solution for workers to guarantee their rights.

“We are seriously considering forming a syndicate that protects the rights of Syrian refugee workers in KRG,” he added.

He suggested that “the worker signs a formal contract including all his wages.”

He noted to the difficult conditions the Syrian refugees live and the economic crisis exacerbated by coronavirus.

Press reports revealed that Syrian workers have not received their wages in several construction projects in the governorates of Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
