Syria’s AANES confirms not obtaining coronavirus vaccine

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Health Board of the Jazira region, northeast Syria, confirmed that they did not receive any batch of coronavirus vaccine, excluding at the same time, imposing any lockdown on the region.

“Northeast Syria’ regions have not received coronavirus vaccine so far,” Berivan Darwish, deputy co-presidency of the Health Board of the Jazira region told North Press.

“We were promised to deliver the vaccine to the Health Board during the coming period,” she said.

Darwish excluded imposing any partial curfew or total lockdown.

“There is no decision regarding the partial curfew or the total lockdown, we will monitor the number of the infections and the deaths until the end of March,” she noted.

“We will take the economic situation of the residents into account,” she added.

On March 23, Dr. Akjemal Magtymova, head of Mission and WHO Representative to Syria said, they intend to vaccinate 20% of the Syrians with coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2021.

“There are two routes through which vaccines will be airlifted to Syria, first route would pass through Damascus, “and it would cover the government-held areas and the Kurdish-held areas, and the second would be through the Turkish border.” she added.

It is expected that the vaccination campaign will start in April, according to WHO.
