Syria’s National Defense prepares to transfer fighters from Homs to Idlib
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the National Defense forces of the Syrian government began preparing to transfer more than 100 of its members from Homs governorate in central Syria to Idlib, in the northwest of the country.
Idlib and parts of the governorates of Aleppo, Hama, and Latakia are witnessing a military escalation and mutual bombardment between the Syrian government forces and the opposition groups, after a relative calm that the region witnessed for days.
The group, which is supported by the Russian military forces, received an order to register the names of its members urgently during these days, to be transferred to areas in Idlib countryside.
Issa al-Ibrahim, 29, a member of the National Defense, said that the names of the members from Palmyra and al-Sukhnah are being registered in al-Wahda School in the town of al-Sukhnah.
120 members of the National Defense will be sent as reinforcements, accompanied by their equipment, to the fighting fronts in Idlib, according to Ali al-Mousa, a field commander in the National Defense.
He expected, during a statement to North Press, that other reinforcements would be sent to Idlib from the Russian-backed Fifth Corps, which is affiliated with the Syrian government forces, in the coming period.
Idlib and parts of the governorates of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia have been included, since March 2020, in the agreement between Moscow and Ankara to stop hostilities in the northwest of the country.
