Syrian Democratic Council issues statement congratulating Newroz Day

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) issued a statement on the occasion of Newroz Day in which it congratulated peoples of Syria and the region wishing to be a day for freedom.

“For about 3000 years, the Kurdish people have been celebrating Newroz Day, which forms the values of freedom, justice, equality and liberation from oppression,” the statement said.

“Several peoples participate in celebrating Newroz as it is considered one of the most ancient days for the people of the Middle East,” it added.

In its statement, the SDC pointed out that Newroz has confirmed the values of co-existence and diversity in the area.

“The Syrian communities including the Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmens, Muslims, Christians and Yezidis managed to organize their societal affairs since 2014 by forming the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria,” the SDC noted.

“Those communities defended the unity and safety of the country against ISIS and its supporter, Turkey’s Erdogan and Syrian groups that oppose the unity and fate of these communities,” according to the statement.

The SDC pointed out that Autonomous Administration has become the most splendid option to rescue Syria from its divisive reality and solve its crisis.

“We congratulate Syria’s people, the peoples of the area and the whole world, especially the Kurdish people, for Newroz Day and we wish to be the day for freedom and the end of the Turkish occupation of the Syrian territory,” the statement concluded.
