Syria’s Autonomous Administration responds to economic crisis: official

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – “We are about to start economic projects to respond to the economic crisis in northeast Syria,” co-chair of the Economy and Agriculture Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), Salman Barudo, said on Wednesday.

“Factories of dairy and cheese, cold rooms for vegetables and fruits, and agricultural projects such as green houses will be opened,” Barudo told North Press.

Flour mills will also be established in order to cover the shortage of flour in the bakeries, according to Barudo.

“We are about to enact the laws regulating work, such as trade law, consumer and companies protection, and investment law,” he added.

Barudo pointed out that they have taken some measures to control logistical supplies and monitor the local markets.

The AANES Economy Committee informed its departments to provide the farmers with fuel regardless the licensed acreages, especially those rely on watering, as Barudo stated.

“We decided to provide the necessary procedures and facilities for small and medium enterprises in order to achieve self-sufficiency,” the AANES official noted.

On January 26, the AANES opened a vegetable oil factory in the city of Qamishli, with a production of 300 tons per day. The factory cost six million dollars and it includes 330 workers, according to Barudo.
