Syrian government to give stimulus to government employees

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Syrian president Bashar Assad issued a legislative decree to distribute a one-time stimulus of 50,000 Syrian pounds (SYP) to civil and military employees and retirees.

The decree provides for the distribution of 50,000 SYP equivalent to 11 US dollars, to civil and military employees, and 40,000 SYP for retirees, equal to nine US dollars, as a one-time payment.

The Syrian pounds is witnessing a significant decline in its value, and the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the dollar of Tuesday was approximately 4,500 SYP to one dollar.

On Monday, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Protection announced an increase in the price of 90 and 95 octane gasoline, as well as the price of natural gas canisters.

Since the start of the year, Minister of Internal Trade Talal al-Barazi has made several promises to solve the crises in obtaining fuel and other materials.

Since the beginning of January, Syrian cities have witnessed massive crowding in front of gas stations after the implementation of the decision to reduce fuel allocations for each governorate.

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous promised Syrians last September that he would secure gas, fuel, heating products, and medicines at reasonable prices.
