ISIS militants attack SDF in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North press) – On Sunday, The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that ISIS members attacked them on Friday in al-Shuhail town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF released a statement in which it said: “On Friday at 9 pm, March 5, terrorist members, affiliated with ISIS, attacked our forces in the town of al-Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor.”

“At the same time, one of our supporting patrols which transferred the wounded and martyrs, was ambushed  near al-Shuhail Hospital,” the statement added.

The statement indicated that shooting came from the hospital building, according to the testimonies of the military members.

The SDF expressed its regret at the ill-treatment of the medical staff inside the hospital by their forces, as well as the material damage caused to the hospital.

The statement stressed on an internal investigation on  the members who entered the hospital in order to inspect, in order to hold them accountable, and to provide the necessary compensation for the damage caused to the hospital.

In the statement, the SDF affirmed that they are committed to the law of  the armed conflict, in particular the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The SDF noted to the all necessary measures that must be taken to ensure a safe access to the health care.
