Pope leaves Iraq’s Erbil for Baghdad

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, the Pope left the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, heading to Baghdad, after holding a mass at the Franso Hariri Stadium in the city center.

The Pope arrived at 16:15 local time at the Franso Hariri Stadium in the center of Erbil, in the presence of officials in the region.

The Pope held a mass, the largest in Iraq, attended by about 10,000 people and covered by 180 local and international media outlets.

On Sunday evening, Pope Francis ended his historic visit to Iraq, where he will leave on Monday, after he has toured Baghdad, Mosul, and Qaraqosh in Nineveh.
