DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested three suspects who fired at one of their checkpoints on the outskirts of the town of Baghouz, the former last stronghold of the Islamic State (ISIS), 130 km east of Deir ez-Zor.
Unidentified assailants targeted an SDF checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Baghouz with automatic weapons last Thursday, and the damage was only limited to material, a military source from the town told North Press.
On July 25, 2020, unidentified persons wearing military uniforms broke into the checkpoint, killed three SDF fighters with a sharp object, and injured two others.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor is witnessing assassinations and bombings of many military and civilian institutions, as a result of which the Syrian Democratic Forces have intensified their security operations and pursued those wanted.
Sporadic clashes with automatic weapons took place between unidentified persons and the Syrian Democratic Forces yesterday in the town of al-Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor, after which the SDF cordoned off the town and pursued wanted suspects who were likely to carry out assassinations and bombings, according to the source.
