SDF arrests nine ISIS agents in northeast Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  Over the past few days, the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) special units arrested nine ISIS operatives after security operations in the city of Raqqa and the countryside of Hasakah, Kobani, and Deir ez-Zor, an SDF source told North Press.

The source said that SDF special units arrested five ISIS agents during a security operation in the city of Raqqa on March 2.

These ISIS agents are working to carry out assassinations, bombings and VBIED attacks, in addition to promoting ISIS ideology, the source told North Press.

On the same day, SDF security units arrested a member of an ISIS sleeper cell in the Deir ez-Zor countryside who was active in supplying weapons and transferring them to ISIS cells to use them to target civilians, notables of the region, and security and military forces, according to the source.

This was in addition to the arrest of an ISIS cell in the western countryside of Kobani.

On March 3rd, SDF units arrested two ISIS agents in ​​Aeb al-Tina in the countryside of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah.

The source revealed that the operation was carried out with air support fron the Global Coalition.

North Press documented 66 military operations that were claimed by by ISIS in northern and eastern Syria during the first two months of 2021.

 50 people were killed, while 16 others survived the operations claimed by ISIS.
