Mutual bombardment between government forces and opposition groups in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Syrian government forces targeted armed opposition groups’ posts in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria.
Government forces targeted the city of Sarmin, which is located in the de-escalation zone in the eastern countryside of Idlib with artillery and missiles, a field source told North Press.
The government’s bombardment also coincided with an intense flight of reconnaissance aircraft in the area, no casualties were reported, the source added.
While Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room responded to the government shelling by targeting government posts in Jawbas village in the eastern countryside of Idlib.
Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed government military positions in the city of Saraqeb, east of Idlib Governorate, with artillery shells and Grad rockets.
A military source told North Press that the targeting resulted in direct casualties among the government forces after directly hitting the front lines.
Despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March of 2020, northwest Syria is witnessing military escalation and mutual shelling between government forces and the opposition groups.
The Moscow-Ankara Agreement in 2017 and its additional protocol in March 2020 provides for the cessation of all military operations in the de-escalation zone.
