Syria’s Autonomous Administration demands UN open crossing to deliver aid
RAQA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Office of the Displaced Affairs of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria demanded the UNHCR to open the Tel Kocher (al-Ya’roubiyah) border crossing to deliver aid to the camps.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Office indicated that the camps in northeast Syria are in dire need of medical supplies, establishing centers for treating the wounds and burns, and providing Covid-19 vaccines.
The statement came after a fire broke out on Sunday, in Hawl Camp, which resulted in the death of five children and the injury of more than 30 people.
Tel Kocher (al-Ya’roubiyah) crossing has been closed to UN humanitarian access to North and East Syria for more than two years due to the opposition of Moscow and Beijing, which exacerbated the challenges facing the region in countering the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, according to civil organizations.
Hawl Camp has witnessed security tension since the beginning of 2021, as it recorded the highest death toll in January, which amounted to 20 cases involving Iraqi refugees and Syrians IDPs in addition to security members.
Hawl Camp houses 64.373 people, including 9,544 wives and children of ISIS members, according to the Camp administration.
