HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) found the bdoy of an Iraqi refugee who was killed by unknown persons in Hawl Camp, east of Hasakah.
A security source in the camp told North Press that Iraqi refugee Yunus Kazem Hussein, 23, was killed by four bullets to the chest and abdomen in the first sector of the camp.
Since the beginning of this year, Hawl Camp has witnessed increasing security tension, as the camp recorded a massive number of killings affecting displaced Syrians, Iraqi refugees, and members of the Asayish.
On February 20th, the Asayish found the body of an Iraqi refugee in the camp, while another was wounded.
Despite evacuations of groups of Syrian IDPs from the camp and the transfer of others who are threatened to other camps, camp management is concerned that the situation will take a turn for the worse as a result of the continued murders in the overcrowded camp.
The Iraqis represent the largest population group in the camp, which houses 30,606 Iraqis, according to the camp administration, amid the Iraqi government’s continuous refusal to repatriate its citizens from the camp.
Last month, Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Immigration Karim al-Nouri stated that Hawl Camp “has become a fertile group for terror groups to grow.”
However, the Iraqi official explained that his country did not want to take back its citizens “because of the threat they pose,” though he added that the possibility of return has still not been decided on.
