Uneasy calm after intense clashes in Syria’s de-escalation zone

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria witnessed relative calm after mutual clashes between the Syrian government forces and the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups that took place on Saturday.

The de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria has been witnessing a military escalation and mutual bombardment between the Syrian government forces and the armed groups, despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020.

The area of Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib Governorate, and al-Ghab Plain, west of Hama Governorate, witnessed uneasy calm this morning, as the area did not witness any bombing, field sources told North Press.

On Saturday evening, government forces targeted the armed opposition positions in the villages and towns of Kansafra, al-Bara, and Sufohn in Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib with heavy artillery shells and rockets, the sources added.

Meanwhile, military sources from the opposition told North Press that the Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted government military positions in Kafr Nabl and Zaiton camp with heavy artillery shells.

The sources added that the armed group Ansar al-Tawhid targeted government positions in al-Dar al-Kabera area south of Idlib with heavy artillery shells and rockets.

In the neighboring areas of Ghab Plain, opposition sources said that the Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted, with heavy artillery shells, groups of government forces in the village of Al-Amqiya in the western countryside of Hama.

In Aleppo, activists said that a Syrian government reconnaissance aircraft crashed on Saturday in the village of Kafr Nasih, west of Aleppo governorate, due to a technical malfunction.
