ISTANBUL, Turkey (North Press) – On Wednesday, several sources interested in the Turkish issue argued that tension may resume between Greece and Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean, following the incidents took place on Tuesday.
Turkish media sources said, 4 Greek jet fighters had harassed a Turkish ship, which was conducting technical and scientific research in the disputed water in the north of the Aegean.
The sources mentioned that four Greek F-16 fighters had flown close to the ship TCG Cesme, and then fired heat balloons.
In a press statement, the Turkish Ministry of Defense, Hulusi Akar, said that the Greek fighters carried out frequent harassment, and that Turkey responded to it.
“What happened, heralds the return of tensions in the eastern Mediterranean between Athens and Ankara,” a source interested in the Turkish and international affairs, said.
Days ago, Greece sent a message to Turkey saying that what the Turkish research ship is doing “is unacceptable and that it is an act that does not help the improvement of relations between the two countries.”
“Greece may resort to the European Union against Turkey, and France will support it “, the source added in a phone call with North Press.
“Perhaps in the next few days we will witness European warning messages to the Turkish side, especially since Europe is now standing idly by, but it will definitely try to work to find a radical and effective solution,” the source noted.
It is not in Turkey’s interest, which is working to improve its economy, to open fronts with the European Union and Western countries, even with France or Greece, according to the source.
