Casualties due to IED explosion in Syria’s Turkish-held city of Afrin

AEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, an IED exploded in a Kurdish woman’s house in Basuta village in Afrin region, northwest Syria, killing the woman and another man.

Local sources told North Press that an IDE exploded in  the house of Haifa Sharif, who is a resident of Basuta village in Afrin countryside.

At the time of the explosion, Nawzat Tobal, who was a friend of Sharif’s family, was in the house and was killed too, according to the same sources.

No party claimed the incident, but the finger of blame is directed at the opposition groups that had earlier arrested Tobal on charges of cooperating with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The first explosion was followed by a second one at a nearby location, the cause of which was unknown too, and no casualties were reported.

Ibrahim Sheikho, co-chair of the Human Rights Organization-Afrin, said that al-Hamzat Division, an armed opposition group, is still besieging the village.

Nawzat Tobal was arrested in 2018 by al-Hamzat Division, and was released after paying a ransom.

The group arrested dozens of people on charges of the explosion, according to Human Rights Organisation.
