Syria’s AANES Asayish arrests dozens of drug dealers
QAMISHLI, Syria (north Press) – On Tuesday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) of northeast Syria, announced the arrest of dozens of those involved in drug trafficking and dealing in addition to seizing large amounts of explosives and weapons.
This came in a special press conference organized by the General Command of the Asayish held in the Women’s Asayish headquarters in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria.
During the conference, Media Khalil, an Asayish official, said that their forces had completed the first and second phases of the anti-drug campaign in coordination with several institutions.
Khalil announced the arrest of 92 people, including 17 women, who are involved in trafficking narcotic substances and being used by drug dealers.
“Our forces managed to seize 77 kg of hashish, 150 grams of drug crystal, 45 grams of heroin and 171,000 Captagon pills,” she added.
On September 25, 2020, the Asayish announced the launch of a massive anti-drug campaign and the reduction of its spread.
During the campaign, 17 people were arrested who working in medical warehouses and pharmacies, and selling medicines that could only be given with special medical prescriptions, according to Khalil.
“The Asayish seized 9,973 pills and coordinated with the AANES Health Board to hand them over duly to the Prosecution and Investigation Committee,” Khalil noted.
During the anti-drug campaign, 16 Kalashnikovs, 13 pistols and 22 hunting rifles were seized along with their ammunition, according to Khalil.
