Turkish forces and opposition groups attack Syria’s Tel Tamr

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups attacked the town of Tel Tamr, resulting in three casualties among the opposition groups who attempted to infiltrate the town.

A military source told North Press that an armed opposition group loyal to Turkey attempted to infiltrate the town around noon, an attempt which was thwarted by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which killed three of the Turkish-backed militants.

Approximately one hour later, Turkish forces began shelling the village of Derdara and al-Rihania farm, in the Tel Tamr countryside, with mortars, with no casualties reported from this shelling, the military source added.

Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed groups have consistently bombarded the areas around Tel Tamr since the Turkish invasion and occupation of Syria’s Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad in October 2019, which placed Tel Tamr just a few kilometers from the front lines between the former groups and the Syrian Democratic Forces and Syrian government forces.

Bombardment and attacks on the Tel Tamr countryside continue, even after agreements Turkey signed with Russian and American forces stipulating a ceasefire.
