Iran-backed groups evacuate positions in Syria’s Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Iranian-backed military forces evacuated their sites in the vicinity of Aleppo towards the east of Syria, specifically the desert of Deir ez-Zor governorate.

An informed source close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards told North Press that such moves come to strengthen the military presence of Iranian–backed groups in the countryside of al-Bukamal and the western desert of Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of the Syrian government.

He added that the forces that were withdrawn included heavy machinery, artillery and rocket launchers, in addition to large numbers of fighters.

These moves coincided with the intensification of ISIS attacks on government military targets and others belonging to the Iranian-backed groups, according to the source.

The source pointed out that limited military action and sweep operations would be launched by the groups affiliated with Iran in the vicinity of al-Bukamal and the desert of Deir ez-Zor.

The sweep operations coincide with a similar campaign by the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces along the Iraqi-Syrian border.

At the beginning of this month, seven members of the Syrian government forces were killed in an attack by ISIS militants in Salamiyah countryside, east of Hama governorate.

The Syrian desert has recently witnessed consecutive military operations carried out by the ISIS organization against the Syrian government forces, through ambushes, planting explosives and launching surprise attacks
