Residents call for activation of civilian defense forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR (North Press) – On Thursday, the People’s Council and the People’s municipality in Hajin, 100 km east of Deir ez-Zor, called on the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) to activate civil defense militias known as Civil Protection Forces (HPC) to settle the security.
Salah al-Salman, co-chair of the People’s Council of Hajin, told North Press that the demand to activate the HPC came as a response to the assassination of the People’s Council guards on Wednesday.
The city of Hajin has been witnessing stability compared to the rest of the areas in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, since the expulsion of ISIS from the city, according to al-Salman.
However, in recent times, the eastern and northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed many assassinations of SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, and tribal notables.
“There will be five people in each street equipped with weapons licensed by Asayish,” al-Salman said.
He added that “Their mission will be protecting the streets at night in addition to mobile patrols from six in the evening until six in the morning.”
