Man killed, another wounded by Iranian-backed groups in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a man was shot dead and another was wounded by Iranian-backed armed groups east of Deir ez-Zor.

A local source from al-Abbas, 40 kilometers west of al-Bukamal, told North Press that members of the ninth regiment of Iran, who are stationed in the Dweir water station, opened fire on the residents of the region randomly.

The source indicated that both men were shot while they were repairing their car at the old crossing near the village.

The source added that the murdered is 20 years old and the wounded is 33.

On January 30, unknown aircraft targeted military posts of armed groups related to Iran near al-Abbas, on the southern bank of Euphrates River.

On December 16, a man was wounded while fishing in the Euphrates, east of Deir ez-Zor, by Iranian-backed armed groups, whom are stationed in the southern bank of the river, near al-Bukamal.

Iranian militias and Syrian government forces are stationed on the southern bank of the Euphrates River, while Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are stationed on the northern bank.

The western bank of the Euphrates is divided into two regions: the first under the control of the Syrian government forces and Russian-backed armed groups, and the second to the south of it in Mayadin and Deir ez-Zor, where Iranian-backed forces operate.

Hezbollah militias are deployed in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor Military Airport, northeastern Mayadin.
