Government forces redeploy in Syria’s west Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Syrian government forces completed their withdrawal from areas in the western countryside of Daraa, south Syria, after reaching the last agreement with the central committees.

On Tuesday, the central committees in Daraa and the government forces reached a consensus allowing government forces to enter the town of Tafas and stipulated that the armed groups to hand over their heavy weapons.

The government forces completed their withdrawal from military checkpoints, west Daraa countryside, and redeployed in others on the outskirts of the city, on Monday night, a local source from Tafas, who preferred to stay unnamed, told North Press.

A small number of the government forces remained in towns in the western countryside of Daraa.

The source added that the government forces removed their military checkpoints and redeployed their forces following the agreement with the central committees on Tuesday.

A government military source, who preferred to stay anonymous, told North Press that the aim of the government forces withdrawal from military checkpoints and to redeploy in western countryside of Daraa was return the security fortifications around the city of Daraa.

The source added that the government military withdrawal and their deployment around Daraa city took place under Russian call to smooth residents’ movement between towns and cities in the western countryside.
