Mutual bombardment between government forces, opposition groups in northwest Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed mutual bombardment between government forces and opposition groups on Sunday.

Government forces targeted the Kabana area in Jabal al-Akrad, north of Syria’s coastal Latakia region, with heavy artillery, and no casualties were reported.

The government’s bombardment also coincided with intense flight of Russian reconnaissance aircraft in the area, the source added.

An opposition military source stated that the Turkish-backed Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room sniped a government soldier in Ghab Plain area west of Hama.

Late in January, the Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room announced that it was able to thwart an attempt by the Syrian government forces to advance on the front of the southern countryside of Idlib.

Late on Saturday, Russian warplanes launched several air strikes with concussion missiles on the western outskirts of Idlib.

Government forces also targeted the villages of al-Enkawiand and Qaleidin in Ghab Plain on Saturday with artillery and missile strikes, which caused material damage to private and public property.

The frontlines in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria have recently witnessed military escalation between Syrian government forces and the armed groups operating in the region, as part of the mutual bombardment between the two parties.

The Russian-Turkish signed agreement in 2017 and its additional protocol in March 2020 provide for a halt to the military actions in the governorate of Idlib and its surroundings.
