Lifting lockdown due to low COVID-19 infections in northeast Syria: AANES

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) Health Board, Jiwan Mustafa, said that the decision to lift the complete and partial lockdown in northeast Syria’s regions came as a result of the low rate of infections and deaths of coronavirus.

Mustafa told North Press that the number of infections decreased from 43% to almost 10% in the worst cases, according to the samples that were examined recently.

Mustafa said that making the decision to imposing or lifting the lockdown depends on the statistics of the number of coronavirus infections and deaths.

On February 3, the AANES Health board completely lifted the lockdown.

On November 25, 2020, the AANES Executive Council imposed a ten-day-complete lockdown in some cities and towns in its areas, after the raise of COVID-19 deaths and infections.

The complete lockdown was followed by partial one, since all universities, schools, and kindergartens in the AANES areas were closed.

According to the new statistics on new cases of coronavirus in the Autonomous Administration regions, the number of infections has risen to 8,560, including 298 deaths and 1,225 recoveries.
