DERIK, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, US forces conducted a patrol in northeast Syria’s Derik region.
The patrol set off from the city of Derik, heading to the Kocherat oil region south of the city. The patrol consisted of three armored vehicles, with no air cover to secure the patrol’s route observed.
The US Department of Defense announced on Monday that the mission of the US forces in Syria is not to protect oil wells, but to fight the Islamic State (ISIS).
In late 2019, former US president Donald Trump backed away from the decision to withdraw all US forces from northeastern Syria, with the aim of “protecting the oil” there.
