Children Protection Office hands over minors to parents in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in northeast Syria’s Hasakah handed over seven minors to their parents after they joined the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The AANES Executive Council established the Child Protection Office late in August. This step came after an agreement signed by SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of children and their use as combatants in armed conflict.
Child Protection Office co-chair Khalid Jaber said in a statement to North Press that the SDF handed them over seven minors who tried to join SDF ranks, without receiving any complaints from the children’s families.
From 2020 to 2021, 32 minors were handed over to their parents according to the agreement signed with the United Nations.
