Abu Hamam hospital in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor lacks equipment, medical staff

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Saleh al-Oweid, an administrator in the hospital of the town of Abu Hamam, 80 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said on Monday that Abu Hamam hospital lacks medical equipment and staff.

“The hospital lacks special equipment for surgery, cardiac and gynecology departments, in addition to anesthesia apparatuses,” al-Oweid added.

He pointed out that the gynecology department contains only one birthing bed, and it needs an echocardiogram and two extra beds.

The rest of the hospital departments need full equipment, according to al-Oweid.

The hospital consists of 12 departments, and it includes specialized doctors in addition to a physical therapist and laboratory specialist.

Al-Oweid and other members of the medical staff demanded the Autonomous Administration and the Global Coalition to provide the necessary support for the hospital.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, with the participation of a delegation from the Global Coalition, inaugurated a project to rehabilitate Abu Hamam hospital on October 13, 2020.

There are three hospitals in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which are Sheheil, Abu Hamam and Hajin, whose rehabilitation project is still ongoing.

On January 2, 2018, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced the expulsion of ISIS from the town of Abu Hamam.
