Schools on strike over lack of support in northwest Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Eight schools in the western countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, went on strike on Thursday after the financial support for the educational sector was cut off.

On Wednesday, teachers in the city of Idlib protested in front of the Education Directorate in the city demand their salaries after the suspension of support from the educational sector.

Al-Atarib Educational Complex posted on its accounts on social media, stating that many high schools declared a general strike.

The statement added that the strike will continue until they get all their salaries after they were interrupted for a long time.

The strike will continue until teachers receive a fixed salary, according to the statement.

“Teachers are unable to send their children to school because of the difficult living situation, which prevents them from securing school requirements for their children, including books, pens, and stationary,” the statement further explained.

Under the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Salvation Government, the education sector in northwestern Syria has been suffering from great difficulties that have left thousands of students without education, and a large number of teachers have stopped teaching.
